Training Tips & Teamship Guidelines
Now you have read the Teamship Rules, here are some Top Training Tips and guidelines to help you and your team mates get the best out of your training and competitions:
When at training sessions:
1. Attend all training sessions you are scheduled to swim at
2. Inform your lane coach of any medical problem that may effect your swimming
3. Do not swim if you are unwell or injured and to inform your Lane Coach of this
4. Always come prepared and ready to train hard
5. Do not bring Mobile Phones that have a photo/video facility into any Leisure Centre
6. Go to the toilet before your training session starts
7. Ensure that you store all your personal belongings and clothes in a safe place
8. Ensure you have all your poolside equipment (Fins, Goggles, drinks, Wet Card etc)
9. Be poolside 10 minutes before the start of your session to carry out pre water mobility as shown by your lane coach - this will decrease the risk of injury, increase joint mobility and warm up your muscles ready for your session
10. Always bring plenty of drink - little and often during training will prevent dehydration
11. Make sure you understand which direction your lane should swim
12. Do not to sit on the starting blocks during any part of training
13. Swim Warm Up slowly with good technique - this ensures you continue
to warm up your muscles, stretching them in the right way
14. Swim all the way to the end of each length / set and do not stop mid length
15. Overtake down middle of lane or at either end
16. Do not fight for position in the lane - Its is more important to complete the set correctly
17. Give way to a swimmer behind, at either end, who needs to over take
18. Do not pull on other swimmers (legs) to get past - This can cause injury to others
19. Complete every set correctly and legally.
20. Practice what you have been asked - remember Perfect Practice Produces Perfect Performance
21. Practice correct starts and turns for every stroke - remember Failing to Practice is Practicing to Fail
22. Train at the intensity your lane coach has asked you to and pace yourself accordingly
23. Do not to pull on the lane ropes, cut laps or miss end off repetitions
24. Listen to your lane coach who is there to help you, give you good advice and make you a better swimmer - Failure to listen will mean you will not learn
25. Ask your lane coach if you do not understand what you have been asked to do
26. Learn how to use the pace clock
27. Swim Warm Down slowly - this is just as important as warm up and will help avoid muscle stiffness
28. Keep the changing rooms, the facilities we use and all other areas clean and tidy
29. Make sure you collect all your belongings at the end of training and return equipment to its correct place
30. Eat a small snack and have more to drink after your session - this will help restore energy and avoid dehydration
31. Keep your log book up to date so you can see how you have improved in training and competition
When selected for Inter-Club Galas or at Open Meets:
1. Ensure you make yourself available when selected for any team competition (eg
2. Indicate in plenty of time your availability and advise Head Coach if unavailable
3. Rest and prepare the night before any major competition - Early to bed will help the best
4. Always behave well - Remember you are wearing club gear and representing the club
5. Turn Up in plenty of time
6. Wear Club Hats & Costumes at all galas except Age Group & Club Championships
7. Carry out pre water mobility before every session at a competition
8. Swim Warm Up without stopping at or before ends - This causes congestions and slows others down
9. Always follow instructions given by Team Managers or Coaches
10. Do not sit on blocks or bang on turn boards at either end during any part of a competition
11. Support your team
12. Respect any decision made by the referee or any ASA official
13. Do not leave the pool area without a team managers permission
14. Wait until the end of the gala before leaving at team competitions and our Club Galas
15. Make sure you remove any litter from the poolside at the end of the competition
