Swim21 Celebration Evening
Skill Development Level - Silver Award
The evening of Friday September 30th saw the Club being
formally presented with the prestigous Swim21 Accreditation Award.
Mike Jacobs, our Swim21 Co-ordinator, who along with his wife Anne-Marie steered the club towards accreditation, had the honour of accepting the award on behalf of the club.
We were just the 2nd club in Sussex to receive this award, after 1066 Swimmers of Bexhill. There were various speeches of congratulations from our Town Mayor, our Club President Malcom Belchamber, our Club Chairman Laura Goddard, Sussex Sports Swimming Development Officer Alex Message and the Sussex County ASA President.
We were then treated to Kevin's brilliant slide show about the club in 2004 - we can't wait to see the 2005 slide show at the AGM evening Kevin!
This was an evening of giving and receiving.
Through our fundraising efforts we were able to present the charity the club has supported in recent years, The Chestnut Tree Trust, with £500. This was received with thanks by Lesley-Ann Lloyd. |
We were then very thankful to receive a grant of £900 from the Hilton in the Community Foundation. This was due to the efforts of Philippa Redwood who nominated us for this award. Her son Charles has recently been promoted from the Junior Squad to the County Potential Squad.
Then having managed to keep it secret from our compere and Chairman, the annual Doreen Benham award was presented to Laura Goddard by Doreen herself.
Doreen is a founder member of our club and remains one of our vice-presidents. It was due to Doreen that the pool at Littlehampton was built.
To finish the evening there was a toast to the club, followed by some nibbles for all to enjoy.
So CONGRATULATIONS to everyone at Littlehampton Swimming Club - all the swimmers, parents and volunteers, without whom none of this would have happened. You're SIMPLY THE BEST!

Congratulations must also go to Crawley and Bognor Swimming Clubs who have just received their Swim21 accreditation as Skill Development Clubs, following in our success.
